For 12 years the Kansas City Irish Fest has been a centerpiece of KC’s Labor Day Weekend festivities. Named the “Best Ethnic Festival” in Kansas City in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014, and twice voted the “Best Festival in Kansas City” by the KC Convention & Visitors Association’s Visitors’ Choice Awards, the three-day event regularly hosts around 100,000 people.
For a festival with a large attendance base and a myriad of entertainment options, from food to music to dance to comedy and much more, how do you cater to attendees with up-to-the-moment information and updates that allow them to take advantage of everything the festival has to offer? Even more, how do you engage your entire audience, including an active ‘tween audience that had outgrown the children’s play area of the fest but who were not yet old enough to enjoy the event as adults?

Festival Mobile App
Situation
In 2014, Propaganda3 was asked to create an app for Irish Fest. We worked with festival organizers to develop a mobile app for iOS and Android devices. It served as an essential tool for festival attendees and provided a detailed view of the myriad of entertainment, food and cultural offerings the fest had to offer.
In 2015, we refreshed the festival app and supplemented it with a second, stand-alone app experience. Irish Fest Quest is an iOS-only photo scavenger hunt game for the entire family. Participants are guided through a series of interactive tasks and tricky Irish-themed clues that lead users to capture unique photos, explore the sights of the fest and qualify for prizes.
